A Gentle Revolution in Melasma Treatment

Melasma is a fairly common skin condition involving cellular production of melanin-producing melanocytes being so high that it causes brown or grayish patches to appear on the skin.

Yes, melasma can fade over time, but that is no reassurance when the timeframe can be months or even years. For this reason, some people with melasma seek out aesthetic treatments to treat this hyperpigmentation condition that affects millions of people, most commonly women.

At Well Labs+ Medspa Crestwood, we are excited to offer Moxi laser treatment for treating melasma.

Understanding Melasma: More Than Just Dark Spots

Melasma typically develops on the cheeks, nose bridge forehead, chin, and upper lip—areas that receive plenty of sun exposure.

Melasma is sometimes called the “mask of pregnancy” because of its prevalence among pregnant women. However, it can affect anyone.

MOXI™: The Game-Changing Laser Treatment

This non-ablative fractional laser is a gentle yet highly effective solution for addressing stubborn pigmentation issues.

MOXI™ uses 1927nm wavelength technology to gradually break down excess pigmentation. Treatment sessions tend to be between half an hour to an hour. Patients usually need a minimum of three to five treatments, and from there an annual treatment for maintenance.

Fractional Technology Advantages

Fractional technology creates microscopic treatment zones alongside healthy tissue between. The result is faster healing, less downtime, lower risk of complications, and gradual natural-looking improvement.

Treatment Areas

MOXI™ is safe for all skin types and is a treatment for any season. It can treat the face, neck, chest, hands, arms, and legs.

What to Expect During Treatment

Well Labs+ Medspa Crestwood begins with a consultation and assessment of clients’ skin and overall health to get an idea of whether there are any particular risks in your individual case.

Every MOXI™ treatment begins with a thorough consultation where we:

  • Assess melasma pattern and severity
  • Review medical history and medications
  • Cover goals and expectations
  • Create a treatment plan, with preparation and aftercare instructions

The MOXI™ Treatment Process

Melasma treatment with a MOXI™ laser typically takes 30–60 minutes, depending on the treatment area(s).

Comfort and Pain Management

We offer patients anesthetic cream to lower any discomfort; anesthesia is not a requirement, we just offer to apply a topical numbing cream for sensitive patients.

Combination Treatments

Well Labs+ Medspa Crestwood can pair this treatment with BBL® HERO™ so that red and brown spots can be addressed.

What to Expect After MOXI™ Treatment

Downtime typically lasts a week with a sandpaper texture on the skin, although pairing with BBL® HERO™ comes with the two to five days of downtime after that treatment and full recovery can take up to seven to 10 days.

Aftercare Essentials

With MOXI™, avoid putting on makeup for 24 hours after treatment.

We will give you all the post-treatment skincare and instructions that you need.

Special Considerations for BBL® HERO™

BBL® HERO™ requires avoidance of direct sun exposure for four weeks in the lead-up to the treatment, and another four weeks after.

Treatment Series

As mentioned earlier in this blog, you may need three to five MOXI™ treatments and an annual treatment to get optimal results.

Combining MOXI™ with Other Treatments

Besides BBL® HERO™, at Well Labs+ Medspa Crestwood we recommend combining MOXI™ with other treatments for additional skin-rejuvenation benefits.

Chemical Peels

  • Gentle peels between MOXI™ sessions to maintain results
  • Custom peels that can specifically address hyperpigmentation
